Tariff Statement
At Tasco, we are committed to transparency and strive to keep our customers well-informed about any factors that may influence their purchasing decisions.
On March 4th, the US government enacted a 25% tariff on Canadian goods and in response, our government applied 25% reciprocal tariffs. Major home appliances do fall within the jurisdiction of this tariff activity and as such, we expect brands manufacturing their goods in the US to increase their prices within the coming days or weeks. The scale of the price increases is yet unknown as a 25% tariff on import costs does not necessarily translate to a 25% increase in retail prices. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that Tasco sells many premium brands manufactured in countries that are not the United States. Also, we are currently working with affected manufacturers to understand their tariff response, not only with respect to future prices, but stock and availability. Appliances from these manufacturers currently warehoused in Canada are still tariff free and ready to ship. Our best advice to current or soon-to-be shoppers is to order early and take delivery without delay. Ordering early will secure you the lowest possible price in the face of pending increases and taking a quick delivery will protect you from price volatility on future imports. The manufacturer policies for holding pricing on long lead-time orders varies greatly so you don’t want to be caught dealing with an unexpected price increase at the time of delivery. If you are a current Tasco client with an order pending delivery in the coming months, we recommend you reach out to us. We can check your brand and advise on the best way to avoid any possible price fluctuations.
The last thing to consider, even if you plan to buy non-US appliances, is that increased demand for those appliances over the coming months may put pressure on supply across the entire industry. Even appliances manufactured in places like Germany, South Korea and Mexico could experience inventory challenges indirectly caused by these US tariffs. As such, our advice to buy early and take delivery quickly applies across the board.
Tasco has a long history in Canada, dating back to 1954 and our original location on Dufferin Avenue in Toronto. You can still find us there and you can still count on us to be a trustworthy appliance partner with the experience to help you navigate this uncertainty with confidence.
